Syara Rae is a British author, award-winning former BBC radio host, and senior producer whose professional media career spanned more than two decades across music, culture, broadcasting, and social-impact journalism. Previously known professionally in media as Shaheera Asante, she later chose to leave her broadcasting career behind and fully embrace her spiritual name and path as her work evolved more deeply into consciousness, healing, and multidimensional awareness.
Clairvoyant and clairaudient since early childhood, Syara has spent a lifetime exploring spirituality, meditation, consciousness, and esoteric traditions while navigating both profound personal transformation and an extensive public-facing media career. She has also served as a UK delegate to UN Women.
In her debut nonfiction book, The Burnout Portal: A Spiritual Awakening in Disguise, Rae reframes burnout not simply as a personal crisis but also as a reflection of the broader collective experience happening worldwide. Her writing delves into her deep understanding of energetic imprinting, ancestral programming, frequency distortion, and collective karmic patterns.
She holds a Master of Science in Sustainability and Environmental Development from Anglia Ruskin University in Cambridge, where she founded the UK’s first city-wide sustainability festival. Her professional experience also includes work in climate innovation and philanthropy at the University of Cambridge. Syara is the mother of one adult son and is of Guyanese, Indigenous Arawak, Brazilian, and Ghanaian parentage and she enjoys living in the sunshine and by the ocean.
Why I Wrote The Burnout Portal
“I didn’t write this book because I believed I had all the answers. I wrote it because after decades of life experience, personal transformation, spiritual exploration, media work, motherhood, burnout, and deep inner questioning, I began to realize that many people are silently experiencing the same collapse beneath the surface of modern life.
What we often call burnout is not always simply exhaustion. Sometimes it is the dismantling of identities, belief systems, inherited conditioning, and ways of living that no longer align with who we truly are.
The Burnout Portal was born from my own lived experiences, but also from years of observing collective patterns within society, consciousness, media, and human behaviour. My hope is that this book helps people feel less alone as they navigate their own transformations.”
Syara is currently preparing for her upcoming book tour alongside the development of a podcast and speaking series inspired by the themes explored in The Burnout Portal. A Spanish-language edition of the book is also currently in development and is expected to be released in early summer.
